Research materials
Apart from its hundreds of thousands of books, (including South Australiana, Forensics, police, crime) it is also possible to access:
- A photographic database containing tens of thousand of images of South Australian places, people and events. Many of these can be viewed online via the SLSA online catalogue, for example:
- contemporary and historic statistics; births, deaths and marriages indexes
- inquest reports, burial orders, coroner's reports
- archival material such as diaries and letters
- ephemera such as old restaurant menus, brochures, pamphlets, posters
- full text articles from hundreds of electronic data bases (these data bases can be accessed from home at no cost to south Australian residents)
- recent and historic newspapers on microfilm. Many nineteenth century newspapers contain hand drawn illustrations and advertisements and later, some papers, such as the Adelaide Chronicle also feature historic photographs.
- South Australiana collection: contains published material on all aspects of South Australian, current and past
- The SA Police Gazette yearbooks
- Various newspaper indexes, e.g. the Advertiser and Chronicle Journal of the South Australian Historical Society. This contains short articles on various South Australian topics
- The Temme Index of ships and shipwrecks 1836-1990, catalogued under name of ship, e.g. "Star of Greece"
- The Arbon Index of (mainly 20th Century) ships
